1914 Fatima T222

The Fatima cigarette baseball card set of 1914 is very different from other tobacco card sets of that era. Instead of small, thin paper cards, these are glossy photos measuring 2-1/2"x4-1/2". The American Card Catalog designation for this set is T222.

1914 Fatima T222 Card fronts featured a sepia photo of the player in action, with his name and team within the white border at the card bottom. Card backs gave the series name with a paragraph describing the series, as well as an advertisement to send away for premiums.

This card set dealt not only with baseball players of the era, although slightly over half of the cards in the set were devoted to baseball (52 out of 100). Thirteen of the sixteen major teams of the time are represented (lacking the Red Sox, White Sox, and Pirates).

Several of the cards have a small number beneath the player's name on the front; since many cards from the set feature the same number, this is not considered the 'true' card number for any of these.

Prominent players in this set include Walter Johnson.

Cards from this set in better condition are rarer, due to antiquity and the thinness of the paper used to print them.
