1933 DeLong Baseball Cards

1933 DeLong baseball The 1933 DeLong baseball card set consists of 24 cards, each measuring about 1-15/16"x2-15/16". The American Card Catalog designation for this set is R333.

Card fronts feature a partially-colored player photo against a multicolored, cartoon-like stadium background, with the player name and team at the bottom.

Unlike other baseball issues, the card backs do not feature statistics or information about the player shown on the card front, but instead offer a paragraph of advice to young baseball fans about how to improve their game-playing skills. The backs were written by Austen Lake, editor of the Boston Transcript.

This is one of the first baseball card sets to be sold with gum.

Prominent players in this set include Lou Gehrig, Jimmy Foxx, Pie Traynor, and Robert (Lefty) Grove.
