1953 Topps Baseball
The 1953 Topps baseball card set consists of 274 cards, each measuring 2-5/8"x3-3/4". Fronts of cards feature a player photo, name, position, team, and team logo. Backs feature card number, recent stats, a paragraph about the player's career, faux player signature, and a trivia question.
The set was meant to be 280 cards, but six player contracts were held exclusively by competitor Bowman.
Roughly half of the first-series (#1-165) cards appear to have been double printed, meaning they are more easily found. The high-number cards (#221-280) were printed in smaller quantities, and some of these are even scarce among the high-number set.
Prominent cards in this set include those of Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Bob Feller, Pee Wee Reese, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, and Satchell Paige.
