1956 Topps Baseball
The 1956 Topps baseball card set consists of 340 cards, each measuring 2-5/8"x3-3/4". This total (and in general, a set price) does not include two unnumbered checklist cards.
The 1956 set is similar to its two immediate predecessors, especially the 1955 set, in that it features horizontal fronts with two player photographs, one portrait and one in-action; again, some player photos are duplicates from previous years. Card backs depict recent stats as well as a larger three-panel cartoon depicting important moments from the player's career.
This is the first Topps set to include team photos. Also included are cards for the two league presidents of the time, William Harridge and Warren Giles.
Both gray-back and white-back variations of cards #1-180 exist; gray backs are considered (by some collectors) slightly more valuable for cards #1-100, white for #101-180.
Prominent players in this set include Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, Roberto Clemente, Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax, Willie Mays, and Mickey Mantle.
