1960 Topps Baseball
The 1960 Topps baseball card set contained the same number of cards as the previous set, 572. This year's issue, however, featured a horizontal design for the card fronts.
This set also features a return to two player photographs on the front, a larger closeup portrait and a smaller in-action photo. Player name is in a multicolored font with position, team name, and team logo at the bottom.
The player's career statistics are again on the backs of this year's cards; they had been omitted on the 1959 set. There is also a one-panel cartoon and a brief paragraph on the player's career.
Specialty cards in this year's set include cards devoted to team managers and coaches; highlights of the previous year's World Series; and two groups of rookie cards. The first set are the Sports Magazine rookies, on cards #117-148; the second is referred to as Topps All-Star Rookies.
This set also includes All-Star player cards. Team cards again have a checklist on the back.
High number cards are more scarce, and cards #375-440 can be found featuring both white or gray cardboard, with the white ones being considered less common.
Prominent players in this set include: Ernie Banks, Bob Gibson, Carl Yastrzemski (rookie), Willie Mays, Stan Musial, Hank Aaron, Willie McCovey (rookie), Bob Clemente, Sandy Koufax, and Mickey Mantle.
