1961 Topps Baseball Cards

The 1961 Topps baseball card set featured a no-nonsense vertical design, with a color player photograph dominating the card fronts.

This set features 587 cards, although the cards number through 598; there were no cards numbered 426, 587, or 588, and there were two #463 cards.

Card backs featured extensive player statistics and (if there's room) a cartoon showing highlights of the player's career.

This set also features special cards devoted to statistical leaders as well as ten Baseball Thrills cards. The set checklists are separately numbered.

The scarcer high numbers of the 1961 set run from #523 to 589.

Prominent players include Brooks Robinson, Willie Mays, Whitey Ford, Don Drysdale, Carl Yastrzemski, Stan Musial, Mickey Mantle, Sandy Koufax, Bob Clemente, Hank Aaron, and Duke Snider.
