1962 Topps Baseball Cards

The 1962 Topps Baseball Card set upped the ante for collectors yet again with its largest set ever up to that time, 598 cards.

1962 Topps baseball The card fronts feature a large player photograph against a narrow woodgrain background, with a 'curled-up' lower right corner for player name, position, and team. Card backs again feature career statistics, paragraph, and cartoon.

The 1962 set includes more specialty cards again, including All-Stars, World Series highlights, checklists, team photos, etc. This year's rookie cards feature more than one player. New subsets this issue include a 10-card group of cards devoted to Babe Ruth, as well as a small group of 'In Action' photo cards.

This set contains a number of cards in the second series (#110-196) in which variations exist in the form of two different photos, or else a small inset photo included with the larger one.

Cards in this second series can be found with a more greenish tint, which was corrected in later print runs.

Some high-number (#523-598) cards were apparently short-printed and thus are harder to find and more expensive. These prices are not included in the complete set price.

Prominent players include Roger Maris, Sandy Koufax, Stan Musial, Tim McCarver (rookie), Mickey Mantle, Gaylord Perry (rookie), Joe Torre (rookie), Willie Mays, Yogi Berra, and Hank Aaron.
