1969 Topps Baseball CardsThe 1969 Topps baseball card set raised the stakes yet again for collectors, with a huge 664-card set.
Card fronts for the 1969 set are very similar to the 1967 cards, with the main difference being a colored circle containing the player name and position. Again, the player photo dominates the card, with the team name (and circle) superimposed over it.
Card backs returned to a horizontal format with a clean design, including career statistics, cartoon, etc.
Specialty cards in this set include statistical leaders, World Series highlights, and team rookies - but, for some reason, no team photos.
This set again contains the variations in which the player's last name is in either white or yellow lettering. Here, the white lettering is considered more scarce, and thus those cards are more expensive. The variation-card prices are not included within the set total.
Prominent players in this set include Ernie Banks, Roberto Clemente, Hank Aaron, Johnny Bench, Pete Rose, Carl Yastrzemski, Frank Robinson, Reggie Jackson (rookie), Al Kaline, Nolan Ryan, and Mickey Mantle.
