1970 Topps Baseball CardsThe 1970 Topps baseball card set broke the company's old record by sporting a whopping 720 cards.
Card fronts featured a color photo of the player outlined in white, against a gray background. The team name was superimposed over the photo, and the player's name (in cursive) and position sat within the bottom gray border.
Card backs were split into two sections, with the top quarter being a dark block featuring the player's name & biographical info in white (along with a short biographical paragraph, if there was room), with the card's number in a yellow circle at the left. The bottom 3/4 of the card consisted of the player's career statistics within a yellow block. Some of the cards had a small cartoon about the player to the upper right.
Special cards in this set included team photos, World Series and playoff game highlights, team rookies, statistical leaders, and All-Stars.
As with many sets, the high-number cards prove the most difficult of the common cards to obtain.
Prominent players in this set include Carl Yastrzemski, Vida Blue (rookie), Reggie Jackson, Thurmon Munson (rookie), Brooks Robinson, Tom Seaver, Lou Brock, Roberto Clemente, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Pete Rose, Frank Robinson, Johnny Bench, and Nolan Ryan.
