Kenner Super Powers Action Figures

Kenner Super Powers figure The Super Powers Collection was a line of action figures produced by Kenner during the 1980's. The line consisted of superheroes and enemies from the pages of DC Comics. The line got its name because each figure had a unique type of moving mechanism (for example, a 'punching' fist), which was that figure's super power. Three separate series of figures were released over the years 1984-86, with attendant merchandising from both Kenner and DC Comics. A total of 33 figures, 9 vehicles, and one playset (the Hall of Justice) were released.

The first series of figures included many of DC's more popular characters, naturally. Curiously, the second series featured characters from creator Jack Kirby's Fourth World titles, which hadn't been published in a decade; still, Kirby received royalties for this use of his work, one of the few times in his long career that the King of Comics got any royalties at all. The third series included more mainstream characters (interestingly, ones acquired when DC bought out other publishers, such as Shazam/Captain Marvel), as well as unique characters introduced just for the toy line.

The line closed down in 1986 due to declining sales. Kenner wasn't having a very good year: that was also when their original line of Star Wars figures stopped being marketed, at least for a time.
